December 2015 Christmas Morning at Home

Christmas morning is always so much fun. This particular morning was the best because we hadn't had any snow yet. We woke up Christmas morning to tons of it. It was so still and magical and pretty outside.  We went downstairs and opened all the presents and enjoyed time with just the 4 of us. After we finished opening presents, we got ourselves ready to go to Grandma and Grandpa Johnson's house. It's tradition for us to go there every Christmas morning and see cousins and finish opening presents.
We went outside to load up the truck with presents and ourselves. The truck was parked on the corner curb of our house. I walked to the passenger side and open the door. Addy had walked around to the backseat door on the driver side to get in. As i'm putting presents in the front seat, the truck jolts, snow falls onto my head from being loosed on the top of the truck and I see Addy fly across the back seat as her door slams shut. Still trying to make sense of what all just happened and asking Addy if she is ok, I look up and see through the windows on that side of the truck that a car had slid right into us, t-boning the side of our truck. Realization set in and I realized that had Addy been seconds slower getting into the car, she could have either had her legs trapped inside the door jam of the truck or her entire body trapped between the truck and the car who slid into us. Luckily she had just jumped up onto the door jam and the car hit right then sending her across the back seat. I told the girls to stay where they were and then Nate and I went around to see if the kid who hit us was ok. He was, thank goodness. He asked us not to call police and that he would go to the ATM and be back. Well, we knew right away that wasn't going to happen and with it being Christmas morning, Nate let it go.  We were in a bit of shock the whole way to Scott and Vals. We were so grateful the timing ended up the way it did.
