November 2015 Johnson's in Mazatlan

When you dock in Mazatlan on the Carnival Miracle and you hear the captain come over the intercom stating a warning to tourists in Mazatlan that day, it doesn't sit well. Especially when you have children with you.  The captain was sure to announce the danger we would be in should we not be careful. Yikes. We decided the safest thing to do would be to take a guided tour of the city which was called a hop-on, hop-off tour. You pay $25 per person and then you hop on the tour bus. Buses come to each location every 15 minutes so you can jump off at a any point to see the sights then catch the next bus coming through. Our first destination that we hopped off at was an old cathedral that was giant and breathtaking. The craftsmanship is impressive. Outside the cathedral was a huge flock of birds that just wanted attention.. and food. They were not afraid of us at all. We hopped back on the next bus and knew we were going to meet at a beach with the rest of the family so we stayed on the bus to see the sights while driving by and ended up at a gorgeous beach called Playa Cerritos. The sand was silver, the sun was hot and it was just a perfect beach day. There were of course, many people walking the beach and selling their little treasures. It was a bit much. At one point, we were eating lunch after we enjoyed the beach and we saw a truck drive by with police holding on to the truck bed holding assault rifle guns. That was a little bit of a scary sight to see. That ended our day in Mazatlan. We got back on the bus and headed back to the cruise port.
