The BLANKET

Those of you who know Addy well, know that she is inseperable to her blanket. You see, I made Hailey a silky blanket when she was a baby so when Addy was born I did one for her too... although when Addy was born, my sewing machine had burnt up so I enlisted the help of my friend Kristi. Well, since then, it's been her blanket that is a constant attachment.

She has this thing where while she's holding her blanket, she finds certain spots and rolls the fabric between her fingers. It's very strange. Whenever we lay down with her to get her to sleep, she does the same thing to our shirts. She is clearly obsessed. That poor blanket has traveled many miles with this girl and it's very obvious.

Well, we had a tragic accident one morning. You see, Addy likes to sit on the counter while I make her cream of wheat, her favorite.  One morning, she had climbed up onto the counter but had brought her blanket with her. Luckily we have a glass top stove because her blanket was resting on the burner and this was the result...

So, not only does it look bad, it feels like plastic in that burnt corner.  She was pretty upset about it as you can imagine.

A few days later, we went to the store, she picked out some new fabric and a few days after that, when I got my act together, I made her a new blanket. The transition wasn't the easiest, she misses her old blanket terribly, but her new one has resumed the position by her side at all times.

New Do's

I've been trying to decide what to do with Hailey and Addy's hair lately. Well, I took the plunge. Hailey HATES it when I brush her hair because of all the tangles. Even though she insisted for a while that we don't cut it because she wanted it to be the same as Rapunzel, (yes, she's obsessed) she gave in after a night of serious tangles.

Now, she loves it.

Addy just has the perfect hair and face for her cute little bob, so we just trimmed hers up.

Cute little sisters if you ask me. :-)

They pretty much have the same cut, only Hailey's is longer.
Since they both have such thick hair, this makes it SO much easier to brush out and less painful for everyone! :-)

Valentine's Day 2011

Man oh man.. I am ready for winter to end and the yuck to go away.

Valentines Day this year was a bust. Nate and I have never really been fans of this holiday, but whatever. It's fun for the kids. That's the best part.

I always tell Nate to not get me flowers. Here's why. I use to manage a flower shop. I was a florist once upon a time and I KNOW how much they mark up the price on flowers for that holiday. I just think it's pretty ridiculous. But that's just me.

But, a few weeks ago, he did get me a little present. Whether it was an early Valentine's Day present or not, I love it.  He got me a flip video camera. It's great. I'm not gonna lie.

For him, since we aren't eating sugar, I got him a gift basket FULL of snacks. He's a snacker.. especially at night when he's just hanging out, watching tv.

For the girls, Nate brought home a bouquet of balloons for them with a card and new nightgowns that they have been wanting. Sorry, I don't have any pictures. This is why:

This is how we spent most of our Valentine's Day.
Hailey and Addy both had the flu.
It was complete with random high fevers, chills, no appetite, no energy, coughing, sneezing, wheezing..
you name it.
It was so sad.

Hailey and I did manage to make some Valentines that she could take to school at her Valentine's Party to give to her classmates.
Simple, but fun.

A few days later, she was feeling better and ready for her party at school.
She came home with this cute little envelope she had made that held all her treats and Valentine's from her friends. (Do you remember making those in school? I do!)

At least they are feeling better.
Aside from the constant waterfall of snot and symphony of coughs that come
from their room all night long.

I'm sad we didn't get to do fun kid-like valentine's stuff but here's to
 hoping for a sick-less Valentine's in 2012!

Preschool 2011-2012

We've been doing a lot of tossing and turning with descisions on what we should do about preschool next year. Some of the questions we had in our minds were:

Should we move to 3 days a week for Hailey?
Should we just stick with the two days a week?
Should we have her stay at the same place?
Should we find somewhere closer to home?
Should we put Addy in preschool?

These are only a few of the many questions we were dealing with.

Well, we finally came to a conclusion. After a lot of prayer and thought, we have decided that we are keeping Addy home one more year and keeping Hailey at two days a week. I am just realizing how precious my time is with them when they are young. They grow up so fast.

I'm not worried about Hailey's transition into kindergarten after only having 2 days a week at preschool. I'm confident she'll be just fine.

We have also decided to change what preschool she will be attending. We have our reasons.

With that said, I am SO excited about the new school she will be attending. AND, after some reasearch and asking around, I have found that it's an AMAZING school and private school.

Introducing: Kids Village

So, this is what you see when you walk in. The tree is a reading tree where the kids can escape inside and read away.

The classes that are available to Hailey throughout the year are:
Math, Reading, Writing, Science
as well as
Cooking, Music, Arts & Crafts and Foreign Language.

There are more, but these are the main ones.
Each of the classes are set up SO cute. I can't even describe it on this post. You just have to check it out yourself.

Let's get one thing clear. I'm SO not worried about Hailey academically. I don't feel the need to have her excel in preschool. I'm just thrilled that she has a huge opportunity for learning some really fun stuff.

Hailey is very excited which makes it all worth it. I took her there so she could take a tour and decide if she wanted to go there and she could not have been more excited about it.

So, for now, i'm very excited to have this decision out of the way. She's been signed up, the deposit has been made to secure her spot and now I don't have to think about it anymore! :-)

What a Day...

Week, I should say. It's been very... I don't even know the words. But instead of listing why this week completely sucked, I haven't blogged about something I've been meaning to for a while now.

This...

Notice the amazing array of colors around her right eye?
Nope, it's not makeup.
Yep.. it IS a black eye.
And this was taken when it was actually looking a ton better.
While in Las Vegas a couple weeks ago, Addy lost her footing on my parent's stairs and
fell, slamming her face into one of the bars on the railing. She got an instant black eye and it was
pretty swollen.
So sad.

Currently, I sit in my girl's bedroom, in the dark, blogging because one of them is puking and the other one has a temperature of 102.5. The one that's puking doesn't really surprise me because I caught her in the basket of snacks today eating all the fruit snacks. The one with the fever doesn't really surprise me because she has a cold. Alas, here I sit, making sure they both fall asleep peacefully before I head downstairs and probably cry. Just because it's a long time coming.  You know how sometimes you just gotta? This week has been one of those times.

I'm a Big Girl Now!

Addy is now completely potty trained... accept for night time.
YAHOO!!!!
No more diapers!!
DOUBLE YAHOO!!!

The best part about it all... Hailey trained her.
Yep, you heard me right.
Monday, Addy had two accidents on the floor.
Hailey didn't think it was very fair that Addy was getting treats every time she went potty in the toilet.
So, I told her that if she could help me in reminding Addy to go often, then she could also get treats when Addy went.

Well, from that point on, I rarely had to remind Addy. Hailey would even wipe her! :-) Maybe a little too much info for some of you.

So, since Monday, no accidents, and I don't have to remind her anymore. We even had church on Sunday and she was just great in letting us know when the time had come!

Such a little super star.

We were at some friends house last night which is a house she's not very familiar with and I saw her a few times go into the bathroom all by herself and come out with pants pulled up, announcing, "I just had to go potty."

I give all credit to Hailey and i'm so. so. so. glad its done!

p.s. I have a really cute picture of Addy in a pull-up with a VERY excited look on her face but some people are weird about naked kid pictures, even though she's in a pull-up so I chose not to post it.
